Middleton Lodge is a boutique hotel, restaurant and bar set on a private 200-acre Georgian estate.

The estate is located just off the A1 near Richmond between the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors.

The Lodge was built in 1780 by the architect John Carr for a local mining clan and it has remained a family home ever since. In 1980 it was purchased by the Allisons and nowadays it is owned and run by James and Becky Allison.

An impressive, tree-lined driveway leads into the 200-acre estate, which includes five properties: the Main House, the Coach House, the Old Farmhouse, Old Farm, and Fig House.

There are two restaurants: the two-AA-Rosette Coach House, and fine dining restaurant The Forge, which has three Rosettes.

We enjoyed a wonderful diner at the Coach House after a long day hiking in the North Pennines.

Due to its location, Middleton Lodge is the perfect place to stay if you want to explore the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.

Richmond

Head for the attractive market town of Richmond! It is said to be the jewel of the north dales.

This town is built high above a bend in the River Swale, just below Reeth where Swaledale broadens out.

Visit Richmond Castle and stroll along Castle Walk, around the outside of the curtain walls. The views down into the town and across the River Swale are simply stunning!
