The Methuen Arms
On a beautiful late summer’s day, we went to visit Corsham Court in the picture-perfect village of Corsham.
Off course we ended up walking around the Wiltshire countryside and a fellow traveller recommended the Methuen Arms for lunch.
So off we went to the Methuen Arms and it was amazing!
Boasting bags of character, this cosy Georgian coaching inn is set immediately beside the stately home and beautiful grounds of Corsham Court.
It offers 19 newly renovated, stylish bedrooms and award-winning food!
Just 10 miles from the enchanting city of Bath, the Methuen Arms is the perfect base for exploring Wiltshire and Somerset.
Corsham
Corsham is a friendly, low-key village, free of traffic and with a concentration of well-preserved historic building as well as a good range of small, independent shops.
The High Street is made up of mellow, stone buildings of every period, including Corsham’s elegant town hall.
At the bottom of the High Street, near town hall, you will find the famous Flemish cottages.
These were built in the 17th century to house a group of Flemish weavers, who fled from religious persecution, bringing a rebirth of the woollen industry to the town.
Also see the Hungerford Almshouse opposite the main gateway to Corsham’s Court.
Walking
Corsham is a wonderful place to walk!
Walkers can choose from many places of interest nearby, all of which are accessible on foot from Corsham.
We decided to walk the Peacock Trail towards Box to see Brunel’s famous Box Tunnel.
This 9-mile circular explores the area to the west and north of Corsham and offers magnificent views of Box Valley and the By Brook in the Cotswold AONB.
This is just one of eight Heritage Trails centred on Corsham and connected to Biddestone, Box and Colerne.
You could also visit the National Trust village of Lacock or walk through the parkland of Corsham Court.
