This is definitely a must-see when you visit Wiltshire.

With a history spanning 4,500 years Stonehenge is the world’s most famous prehistoric monument.

It was built in several stages: the first monument was an early henge monument, built about 5,000 years ago, and the unique stone circle was erected in the late Neolithic period about 2500 BC.

Today, together with Avebury, Stonehenge forms the heart of a World Heritage Site and it is maintained by English Heritage.

But there is so much more to see and explore. You can see over 250 archaeological objects and treasures discovered in the landscape, which are on display at the Stonehenge Exhibition.

Or you can walk amongst several Neolithic houses to imagine how people lived 4,500 years ago.

English Heritage has even created a Skyscape website to enable people around the world to experience the skies above the iconic stone circle, to learn about movements of the sun, moon and planets and to see the solar alignment at Stonehenge.

This is a really cool feature!!

Walking

Off course we combined a visit to Stonehenge with a walk.

Get away from the crowds and stretch your legs with the Secrets of Stonehenge Landscape walk from the National Trust.

A walk with great views of the famous stone circle while enjoying the Stonehenge landscape!
