The Packhorse Inn
When visiting Newmarket, a world-renowned market town, we wanted to stay in the Suffolk countryside.
We ended up in the small village of Moulton, located close to Newmarket.
The Packhorse Inn in Moulton is a traditional country pub which offers outstanding 5-star AA dining.
We loved the fact that after a long day walking, we could enjoy a scrumptious meal.
Afterwards we had a good night sleep in one of the eight elegant en-suite rooms.
The pub is named after the Old Packhorse Bridge. A four-arched medieval bridge built in the 15th century and a focal point for Moulton village.
It was built to carry packhorses over the river Kennett and it stands next to the pub.
The Packhorse is an ideal base for any horseracing enthusiast due to its closeness to Newmarket. But you could also explore other great places such as Bury St Edmund and Thetford Forest.
Cambridge is only a 30-minute drive away!
Walking
We genuinely enjoyed the Three Churches Walk.
This 6-mile circular connects three churches. We started off at the Moulton Church and headed toward Dalham Church. From there you will be able to head up to Gazeley Church before working your way back to Moulton
If you’re up for a bit of a challenge, then join the Icknield Way Trail.
Crossing six counties, the Icknield Way Trail is a 170-mile (274 km) route linking the Peddars Way National Trail in Suffolk with the Ridgeway National Trail in Buckinghamshire, which in turn links with the Wessex Ridgeway.
The section from Dullingham to Kennett will pass through Moulton. This 14-mile stretch will take up 8 hours from start to finish.
