Tyntesfield in Somerset represents one of the National Trust’s most triumphant renovations.

With the profits of their business importing guano (bird droppings) for use as fertiliser, William Gibbs bought the house in 1843 and rebuilt it in a Gothic-Revival style, which was completed in 1865.

Inside the house every detail is eye-catching, from the ornate fireplaces of Victorian marble to the grand staircases.

We have visited Tyntesfield many times mostly in wintertime when there are less visitors.

This house is one of the top attractions of the National Trust and you need to pre book your tickets online.

Especially during Christmas when the house is beautifully decorated, it gets really crowded.

What makes this place special is the enthusiasm and passion of all the volunteers who look after Tyntesfield.

In every room you will meet someone who is willing to tell you a great story connected to this marvellous place.

So do take your time to enjoy this stunning house!
