When we lived in Somerset, we often walked from our home to The Barrington Boar.

This country pub and restaurant with rooms date back to the 18th century and is situated in the lovely village of Barrington.

It is one of our favourite places to eat in Somerset!

The Barrington Boar offers modern British cuisine and refined comfort food.

Most of the ingredients used are sourced from the local farmers, foragers, brewers and cheesemongers living within a few miles of the restaurant.

The pub focuses its drinks menu on South West produce. They have a superb Perry’s cider Barn on tap (a personal favourite) and a local collection of bottled ciders from Harry’s, Perry’s and Burrow Hill.

The pub also has four stylish en-suite bed and breakfast rooms. Each room has a king size bed, large shower, flat screen TV and Wi-Fi.

Husband and wife team, Alasdair Clifford and Victoria Collins, created a restaurant that is both casual and contemporary, but it is still a country pub where locals gather at the end of the day and socialize.

That is what attracted us to this place. The sense of community is very much alive in this area mainly thanks to this wonderful pub.

Walking

Barrington has an extensive network of public rights of way / footpaths. You can venture out on foot in all directions.

Our favourite 4,3-mile circular walk starts from Atherstone, passes through Stocklinch and heads for Barrington and then back again.

A very nice countryside stroll which can easily be extended with a visit to Barrington Court before stopping at the Barrington Boar for freshly made coffee and home-made cakes!

Ilminster

Or head for the historic market town of Ilminster, a vibrant place with lots of independent shops, tea rooms and galleries along Silver Street.

Raised high above Silver Street, the golden 15th century church of St Mary’s dominates the skyline of Ilminster. It is one of the finest churches in Somerset.

Ilminster is surrounded by three hills, Herne Hill, Pretwood Hill and Beacon Hill. Three separate walks from the centre of town will take you across these “Three Peaks”.

These three walks can be done individually, or all three can be linked together. Along the way you will see some of the hidden parts of Ilminster.
