Carding Mill Valley & the Long Mynd

This is a walker’s paradise!
Get your boots on and explore 2,000 hectares (4,942 acres) of heather-covered hills with stunning views of the Shropshire Hills AONB and the Welsh hills.
Carding Mill Valley, northwest of Church Stretton in the heart of Shropshire, is a steep-sided batch in the side of the Long Mynd.
The Long Mynd is a wild sweeping moorland plateau running for around ten miles.
This stunning area is managed by the National Trust and there are several NT waymarked trails which will guide you up the Long Mynd.
It is clearly waymarked and quite safe if you tackle it in fair weather.
You will see ponies and sheep grazing in the heather and bracken and the views of the Shropshire countryside are amazing!

Walking
There are paths for walking, cycling and horse riding. You can even drive to the top of the hill to take in the views!
The NT Car Park at Carding Mill Valley would be a good place to start your walk.
The Burway Loop (5 miles) will take you to the highest point of the Long Mynd.
If you like a challenge, then try the Ratlinghope Ramble. We started at the Bridges Pub and headed for the Long Mynd.
This 10-mile circular walk takes you round to the quieter, west side of the hill.

We also walked sections of the Shropshire Way.
The Shropshire Way Main Route is a long-distance path of some 200 miles, covering not only the wonderful Shropshire Hills in the South but also some of the historic towns in the North of the county.
If you prefer a shorter walk, then try the Darnford Valley walk.
This is a 7-mile circular walk with a steady climb beside the Darnford Brook that takes in the Golden Valley in the foothills of the Long Mynd.
