Wallington Hall & Garden
When you approach Wallington Hall, you will be greeted by 4 grinning dragon heads. They will immediately put a smile on your face!
Set in the beautiful Northumberland countryside, between Northumberland National Park and the Northumberland Coast AONB, this National Trust property attracts many visitors each year.
For good reason because you could easily spend most of the day at Wallington Hall. This 13,000-acre estate has something for everyone.
The late 17th century manor has many memorable rooms and pretty features. Definitely worth a visit.
But nestled in the woods you will find the highlight of this estate: Wallington’s hidden walled garden.
Enter through Neptune’s Gate, sweep down the stone staircase, by the Mary Pool and follow a thin stream that trickles through green oasis. Enjoy the gorgeous colourful borders filled with scented flowers, plants and shrubs.
Walking
The house is surrounded by an informal landscape of lawns, lakes, woodland, parkland and farmland. Go and explore it on foot!
We enjoyed a short scenic walk along the River Wansbeck. This 2,6-mile walk passes Northumberland’s most elegant bridge, a Palladian crossing designed by James Paine.
If you prefer cycling, then you should explore the wider Wallington estate on the Dragon cycle trail. This family cycle trail passes through woodland and Broom House Farm’s fields.
