Sandringham House is the private home of Queen Elizabeth II.

It is where the Queen eats her Christmas pudding before watching herself on TV.

Well, we like to think that she does because she always stays at Sandringham House during the Christmas period.

Sandringham House stands within Sandringham Estate set in the Norfolk Coast AONB so it’s no surprise that her Majesty likes to spend her winters here.

Norfolk is also our favourite destination during the winter period because it is so quiet and tranquil during the winter months.

You can visit Sandringham house when the Queen is not there. But you need to pre book.

The wooded grounds are quite lovely, and you can visit the 16th century church of St Mary Magdalene. This is the place where the Royal Family comes to worship at Christmas. You have probably seen it already on television.

The interior of Sandringham House feels somewhat private.

It displays a large collection of the gifts the Queen has received from all over the world.

Do take a close look at the drawings of a Dutch artist called Rien Poortvliet. His drawings of the Queen and her family are very endearing.

Explore

There is much to see and do in West Norfolk.

King’s Lynn was England’s third biggest port in the 14th-century. Today its historic core is small but it’s still a nice place to explore.

Or visit Old Hunstanton Beach after visiting the impressive Norman ruins of Castle Acre Priory.

If ruins are to your liking then do visit Castle Rising. Another Norman ruin owned by English Heritage.

Walking

Sandringham Country Park covers an area of nearly 600 acres and has open access and is free to visit. The park had two waymarked nature trails and numerous woodland paths.

The Nar Valley Way runs 33 miles from the Gressenhall Farm all the way to King’s Lynn. This links with both the Peddars Way at Castle Acre and the Wash Coast Path at King’s Lynn.

To get close up to the Wash, why not try the Peter Scott Walk, which runs ten miles along the sea bank from King’s Lynn to the mouth of the Nene at Sutton Bridge in Lincolnshire.
