Brentor is one of the most impressive rock outcrops on the western edge of Dartmoor National Park in Devon.

With St Michael’s Church at its top this conical hill is a landmark throughout western Dartmoor.

The view from the top is, as you would expect from the highest church in England, magnificent!

A car park nearby provides easy access, but it is a steep, but relatively short climb to the summit, with spectacular views from start to finish.

On a clear day you can see Bodmin Moor and Plymouth Sound.

There is plenty to see on the way up, including the remains of an Iron Age earth-walled enclosure on the slopes of the tor.

Walking

Combine a visit to Brentor with a walk through Lydford Gorge.

We visited Lydford Gorge in the late afternoon and then we headed for Brentor just before sunset.

It was a perfect ending of a perfect day!
