Haystacks
Haystacks, or Hay Stacks, is a hill in Cumbria, situated at the south-eastern end of the Buttermere Valley, set in the Lake District National Park.
Compared to its neighbours, Red Pike, Fleetwith Pike and High Crag, Haystacks is not of any great elevation (597 m, 1,958 ft). But is has become one of the most popular fells in the area.
This fame is partly due to the writings of Alfred Wainwright. Haystacks was one of his favourite places.
And he was right! Haystacks has a unique feel compared to most of the other walks in the area.
Walking
A 5-mile walk will take you from Gatesgarth Farm car park up to Haystacks. The path up the fell can be strenuous at times but the wonderful views back across Buttermere are worth it!
So, take your time for this walk. At the top, the views stretch across Buttermere and Crummock Water, with Loweswater in the distance
