Waddesdon Manor was the creation of Ferdinand de Rothschild.

He bought the Waddesdon Estate from the Duke of Marlborough, hired a French architect and in 1870 reproduced this French château in the heart of Buckinghamshire.

As a family, the Rothschilds were great collectors and the house is filled with royal treasures such as French decorative arts, beautiful furniture and English and Dutch paintings.

We truly enjoyed the gardens. These were the vision of Ferdinand de Rothschild.

It is an exceptional example of Victorian horticulture including formal gardens, trees and walks.

We would recommend visiting at the end of the day when it is less crowded. Waddesdon Manor is a very popular attraction in the region due to its close proximity to the Chilterns AONB and London.

So why not enjoy a great lunch at the Five Arrows Hotel first and then visit the manor grounds in the late afternoon!
